The Story Behind the Painting: I usually paint birds that I have observed first hand. I see Sandhill Cranes in eastern Oregon at the Malheur Wildlife Refuge and at the Cosumnes River River Preserve near Sacramento, California. They are always colorful and inspiring, in the air or on the ground. Imagine my surprise to find 2500 sandhill cranes last winter in Wilcox, Arizona. I could hardly tear my eyes away after observing them for hours.
